Cate Van Es
Cate Van Es is a current senior at Camden Catholic High School. She attended Our Lady of Hope Regional School from Kindergarten through 8th grade.
Cate’s affinity to help others through community service began in 2nd grade with her teacher Mrs. McNally who stressed the importance of being an active part of her school, church and community. Cate took these words to heart and served as an altar server at the Church of the Holy Family as well as Our Lady of Hope School for 7 years. She has volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, was a Teacher Assistant at Our Lady of Hope parish for their religious education program and she currently is working with Catholic Charities and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program which offers free tax help to the elderly, those with household incomes of $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited English-Speaking taxpayers.
At Camden Catholic Cate has managed a very academically challenging honors course load while participating in many leadership roles at CCHS as a member of National Honor Society, the Emerald Literary Society, Cathedral Scholars, Green and While (student ambassadors), and Link Crew (freshman orientation program),
Cate has also participated in many extra curricular activities including, 4 years on the CCHS swim team, Crew with the South Jersey Rowing Club for 5 years and she even completed her first triathlon in 2018. Cate is a lifeguard at Greenwood Park/Bells Lake during the summer and has been on the Frogs Swim Team since the age of 8.
As the end of her high school career is fast approaching Cate is anxiously awaiting a nomination for the US Air Force Academy where she hopes to join the Class of 2024 and pursue her dream of becoming an Air Force pilot with a degree in engineering while serving her country.
Cate attributes her drive to succeed, her strength to overcome obstacles and her desire to help others to the wonderful role models and teachers she has had over the past 13 years in Catholic school. She still vividly remembers her kindergarten graduation and teacher, Mrs. Kiessling who told each one of her classmates to remember “your future’s so bright you gotta wear shades.”
